Song For Wilson

Wilson Waters Forrester made his transition on April 2, 2012. He was just 19 years old and attending University of Arizona. Sadly, our beloved Wilson died from a lethal dose of drugs and alcohol and was found lifeless on a couch by his fraternity cronies. His death was a tragedy that could have been avoided.

I have learned that fine young men don’t happen by mistake; they are forged and if we don’t initiate our young men they will do it themselves, often with devastating consequences.

The ancestors, including The Ill I Ni, who are our red brother ancestors from which the mid-western state of Illinois garnered its name, watched on solemnly as my dear brother Chip Forrester and a group of friends reunited Wilson’s ashes with the elements. Wilson loved the farm in Mount Vernon, Illinios.

I see him smiling
no shirt and a tan
But I’m never
gonna see him
grow up to be a man.
I have to believe
that his work was done
And somehow
it feels like mine
has just begun
