“He’s rockin”, said Paul McCartney and gave an enthusiastic two thumbs up to songwriter/singer Washuntara, who was performing a selection of his own songs at Sir Paul’s intimate end-of-tour party in Osaka, Japan.
Already acclaimed in the UK, Japan, Germany, France, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, the Scandinavian countries and all around the Australasian zone, Washuntara has garnered a sizable following across the United States following the release of his Fierce Tenderness CD and the broad airplay of the song~Riverboat~from that album. Hope Street, the new CD, and its companion DVD, A walk in the music, continue to amass new and dedicated listeners.
Apart from his feature work, Washuntara has performed with many famous acts including Sir Paul McCartney, the Eagles, Jerry Lee Lewis, INXS, the Moody Blues and Garth Brooks- to name a few.
And recently, in Washington DC, he was received with great enthusiasm at a charity event held at the White House.
Born in the Australian Outback to a bush family rooted in traditional music, this rising performer was the first-and only-songwriter to be awarded the Australian Commonwealth Exports grant. That seeded Passionworks, his music publishing company on Nashville’s famous Music~Row. A true songwriter AND singer with something to say, Passionworks Music, has enjoyed great success for more than a decade on the back of Washuntaras musical works.
He began performing as a child and reached Top 10 status in the Australian and European markets with his self-penned recordings, including Man an Woman and Just Remember, before heading to the US.The Australian-published book, Its Our Music, devotes a chapter to the singer, saying: Washuntara is easily the outstanding (Australian) artist of the decade.
Off stage Washuntara bases himself between Australia and the US, working on his other talent- public speaking. “If we treated our friends like we treat ourselves, we wouldn’t have any,” says the fiery Australian. The late American poet, Tom C Armstrong described hearing him speak as akin to a human volcano, palpably able to reach out and envelope his audience. . His brand of fierce tenderness, vibrant song and “magnificent tales from the ordinary life” are making powerful waves for a growing number of people surfing in his wake.
“A natural democratic leader”, Says Ross Wisman, President of RDCOTA Australia.
Washuntaras hands on approach to helping usually finds him working at the human coalface. For the dying, the aged, the unwell, the unprotected, uninspired and unloved; he determinedly chips away. The heart felt songs and carefully spoken words of his performances come from and for his real heroes,
“Those that have known despair and chosen to rise above it.”
