WASHUNTARA
“He’s rockin’!”
- Sir Paul McCartney, Osaka, Japan; 2005
Legendary rocker Sir Paul McCartney gave Washuntara an enthusiastic two thumbs up following the Australian singer/songwriter’s performance of his original music at Sir Paul’s intimate, end-of-tour party in Osaka.
Already acclaimed throughout Europe and Australasia, Washuntara gained a sizeable following across the USA after the 2004 release of his CD, Fierce Tenderness, and broad airplay of his self-penned song, Riverboat. His latest CD, Hope Street, and a companion DVD, A Walk in the Music, continue to delight both dedicated fans and new listeners alike.
Based for half of each year in Nashville, Washuntara has worked as a songwriter in this country music capital of the world for the past 20 years, and his own music publishing company, Passionworks, is located on Nashville’s famous Music Row. Passionworks Music has enjoyed great success on the back of Washuntara’s creative work for more than a decade. His song, Can’t Stop Love, which he co-wrote with American Country Music Songwriter of the Year 2000, Tony Marty, was instantly snapped up by Disney and will feature in the inspirational movie, The Truth: the Journey Within: www.thetruthmovie.tv. Featuring a host of internationally acclaimed speakers, The Truth takes an up-close look at creating better personal relationships. It is due for release in 2010.
This versatile performer was born in the Australian outback to a bush family rooted in traditional music. He began performing as a child and, as Brenton Roberts, reached Top Ten status in Australian and European markets with his self-penned recordings, including Man and Woman and Just Remember, before heading to the USA. He was the first songwriter to be awarded the Australian Commonwealth Exports Grant, which seeded Passionworks. The Australian-published book, Our Music, devotes a chapter to the singer, saying: “Washuntara is easily the outstanding (Australian) artist of the decade”. This has been reinforced by this world-class talent having performed with some of the world’s greatest acts, including Sir Paul McCartney, The Eagles, Keith Urban, Jerry Lee Lewis, INXS, Moody Blues, Garth Brooks and others. He has also been received with great enthusiasm at charity events at the White House in Washington DC and travels the world performing at international events, festivals and functions.
